Florida Realtors® Continue to Support ‘Yes on 1’

TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Jan. 23, 2008 – The Florida Association of Realtors® (FAR) continues its advocacy for Amendment 1 and local Realtor associations across the state are very much involved in the effort. For example, in St. Lucie County, the local Realtor association sent a postcard to approximately 19,000 residents and has distributed more than 1,500 Yes on 1 yard signs around the county.

“It is critical that Floridians understand that they will not lose their 3 percent ‘Save our Homes’ cap and that Amendment 1 brings the added benefit of portability,” said 2008 FAR President Chuck Bonfiglio. “If we don’t pass meaningful tax reform with this measure – we may not experience any tax relief until 2009.”

In an effort to educate Floridians across the state, several local Realtor associations are sponsoring ads about Amendment 1’s tax-cutting benefits in print and on radio. Nearly 70 local Realtor boards/associations belong to the Florida Association of Realtors®.

“The Realtors have done an extraordinary job in communicating to residents in their local communities,” said Senator Mike Fasano, Chairman of Yes on 1- Save our Homes Now! “Homeowners have suffered long enough and are ready to vote Yes on 1 to cut their taxes.”

In addition, Realtors are speaking at community meetings and events across the state to spread the word about Amendment 1 and encourage voters to vote Yes on January 29. “Property taxes have increased over 99 percent in six years and Florida families deserve relief,” said John Sebree, FAR vice president for public policy.
