Merritt Island Realtor® Installed as District Vice President of Florida’s Largest Professional Association
ORLANDO, Fla., January 2007 — Kathy Starkey, a sales associate with ERA Showcase Properties and Investments in Merritt Island, has been installed as District 2 Vice President of the Florida Association of Realtors® (FAR), the state’s largest professional association. A member of the Space Coast Association of Realtors®, Starkey will serve her fellow professionals throughout District 2, which encompasses Volusia and Brevard counties.
“Obtaining affordable insurance coverage is undoubtedly our biggest market challenge on the Space Coast,” she says. “Another issue is the increase in property assessments and resulting higher taxes, which are a burden for many homeowners.”
Active in residential brokerage and new construction, Starkey served as 2005 president of the Space Coast association, and has been a FAR director since 2004. A graduate of Leadership Brevard, she served as director of the Space Coast Economic Development Commission in 2005-06. She is a member of the Cocoa Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and a past member of the Brevard County Home Builders Association. She was appointed to serve on the affordable task force representing Brevard County’s Economic Development Committee.
Starkey brings extensive industry experience to her role as FAR district vice president. “After 22 years, real estate is still a passion for me,” she says. “I’ve learned and grown a lot in my career, and I enjoy serving as a role model for newer sales associates.”
As a FAR vice president, Starkey will focus on Realtor® education, training and involvement in vital housing-related issues in the region. As real estate professionals, Realtors® seek to improve the availability and affordability of housing, while helping people from all walks of life achieve the American dream.
The Florida Association of Realtors®, the voice for real estate in Florida, provides programs, services, ongoing education, research and legislative representation to its 170,000 members in 68 local boards/associations throughout the state.
